Aegean Seagull Brings Europe to Olympic Athens !!!
Arrive in the Olympic City of Athens and let the Games begin...

On August 13th Olympic Games return to their motherland. It is a very important moment in our country's history and we participate organizing the "Aegean Seagull Brings Europe to Olympic Athens" event with only one ambition : to bring as many pilots as possible to the Olympic City 2004. Everyone can take part in this event, no matter if he/she is pilot of Aegean Seagull. You are free to invite your fellow flight simmers to this flight…Let’s get to Athens and let the Games Begin !
1. Organizing the Flight
The original idea was based on the Hellenic vACC's very succesful event "Pass the Flame-Unite the Wold" held on June 5th, 2004. The participation of european pilots expecting flight from Athens to their capitals so that they take the flame and carry it to their local airports was very much touching indeed. Therefore we decided to orqanize the vice versa event, assigning one pilot at each city who will be responsible to lead all interested pilots from that airport to Athens. In case you see that the airport you would like to fly from to Athens does not have an assigned lead pilot, please feel free to apply to become the Lead Pilot.
We will fly our 737-700, but this not a restriction to anyone of you who would like to fly his/her route with another plane. Just take care so that you can cruise at least with Mach 0.78 at FL350. We want this because it is the only way to calcualte the arrival of all flights within a specific time window in Athens LGAV.

Description:
The HSP FS2004 "Base Scenery" is a set of changes & enhancements
to airports and surroundings in Greece with the intent of a) correcting wrong
entries by MS in respect to geographic locations airports and their objects and
b) enhancing visually airports and places that were left very simple by default
scenery. The changes and improvements were made by adding "light"
objects so as to minimize impact on PC performance. This scenery does not
incorporate detailed custom objects per airport but rather a generic set of
objects used by HST for scenery enhancement. It also includes important
structures such as custom bridges, upcoming Athens 2004 Olympic stadiums,
corrections of coastlines near airports, special wind turbulence effects in
airport surrounding areas (where these exist), all Heliports in Greece, all

3. Registration - Is it obligatory?
By no means reservation is an obligation of yours. But by doing this, you make our planning efforts much easier and our feedback to the corresponding ATC will be more accurate and credible with absolutely no surprises. On the other hand if you found out about this event some late never mind, appear in the airport of your choice and fly to Athens . In case you register you will receive your assigned gate to place your aircraft and an assigned time slot. So if we have convinced you, send us your Full Name, Callsign, your e-mail address, Country of Origin, Aircraft you plan to fly with as well as the Time you wish to depart from your preferred airport and e-mail them at fodim@hol.gr.
Needless to say that Hellenic vACC will cover our arrival in Athens. We have also contacted all European vACCs notifing them of our Event and their response was very good. So we expect a fully covered Europe? We hope so...
4. Pre – Connection Procedures - On Line flight
Be sure to have the latest AIRAC navigation data installed in your SB. Also if you use FS Navigator 4.x take care and update its airway and intersection databases. You can do this by dowloading them from www.NavData.at . Be advised that our flight planning has been made on the basis of AIRAC Cycle 0406.
Prior to your connection here is a piece of advice that could be proved to be wise. We urge you to utilize the ServInfo, a MUST HAVE utility created by Michael Frantzeskakis (check our Links Page) and find out which of the active servers has the smallest ping time for you. You should choose to connect to this server in SquawkBox. Although this is already a standard procedure for the regular and experienced On-Line Flight Simmers, we mention it, so that we reduce the lag factor to the minimum possible level.
For the record, you are supposed to know all details about on-line flying otherwise you better leave it for some othet tiome when you will be more experienced ;).
5. Meeting Point-Communications-RW-AVC usage
As each one of will depart from different airports there will be no central communications channel. If you want you can contact fellow "wingmen" with private messages. In case there will be no ATC along a part of your route, you can join our company frequency, which is UK-1.vatsim.net/ase (or Europe-E2.vatsim.net/ase if the primary frequency does not work) .
Departure hour from each european capital is mentioned in the table below.
Planning was made so that all flights arrive in Athens between 21:00 and 23:00
LT (18:00-20:00 UTC).
PLEASE set your reality preferences
to “IGNORE CRASH”
while on the ground. No reason why we should lose time by
unpredictable aircraft (pilots ?) behavior while being on the ground.
Connecting to VATSIM network does not mean that voice capability is mandatory. All controllers will provide ATC services even to text-only-able pilots.
Try to use radio laconically and speak loud (not too loud) and clear. You must have your system well tuned in order to take the maximum out of it. Make some testing of your settings. You must also understand that not all of people have English as their native language…. Just for this reason please use standard ATC phraseology as it will facilitate things a lot. Clear, Simple and Effective communication!
In FIRs that their ATC is not manned we will return to our company official frequency (UK-1.vatsim.net/ase or Europe-E2.vatsim.net/ase) and we will return to ATC voice frequency when ATC is again available.
6. Flight Plans to LGAV
We remind you that you do not have to be a qualified Aegean Seagull pilot to participate in our flight, BUT you must be good at flying your aircraft. Have under mind that ASe is an advanced virtual airline system and its pilots fly with the highest standards available in the FS community. That means that the fun factor will be greatly increased. It is a good opportunity to have a good taste of our operations level and perhaps apply to join us.
Below you can find flight plans from almost all european capitals to Athens LGAV. We remind you that they have been produced with AIRAC 0406 effective. So prior to your preparations please be sure that you have downloaded AIRAC 0406 for your SquawkBox, FS Navigator, PIC 767, PMDG 737-700 or any other adon that requires AIRAC database. If the provided flightplan are not of your... taste you are free to create another one in order to satisfy your needs. All the flightplans were created with the help of "Routefinder flight planning services" whose homepage is here : http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/fpl-cgi.cgi. A big "Thank you for their help".
All European vACCs have been notified about this event.
If there is not a "Lead Pilot" assigned to your preferred departure airport please fell free to tell us and you will be assigned.

8. IFR charts
You can find all nessecary IFR charts for your departure and destination airport at the respective vACCs site. The URL for Hellenic vACC is http://www.avsim.com/greece/hvacc .
9. Cruising Mach Number
First of all we would like you to participate with aircraft that are able to cruise with at least Mach 0.78 atcruising level. This way we will ensure that the final Hellenic ATC will serve our flights within a specified time window and will not have to wait for us being widely dispersed.
Our Alternative Airport will be Thessaloniki Makedonia LGTS.
11. Fuel on board
Take care to carry a fuel load that will cover your taxi on the ground, your regular flight plus 45 mins of holding plus diversion to the alternative airport of Thessaloniki Makedonia (LGTS).
Some details about missed approach…
This is something that every pilot, who respects himself, should pay some, at least some, attention. We, Aegean Seagull pilots, pay much, really much, attention to it. As weather conditions are not a controlled parameter to a flight (although we are in summer season in Greece), you could be engaged a situation well under the minima for the decision altitude in your destination. In that case we execute a missed approach and we either go for a holding pattern and a second approach later either climb and fly direct to the alternative airport. The latest happens when the main destination airport is closed or there is no chance for the weather to become better. We also execute a missed approach when communication with ATC is lost prior to our landing clearance.
This is the reason why you should study the missed approach pattern at both the destination and alternative airports. If a controller has many aircraft in his area of responsibility, it will be quite difficult for him/her to pay the extra attention needed to you. Besides this way we are as real as it gets…
13. Saving your flight regularly – Reconnection procedures
We strongly suggest you to save your flight in regular
time intervals. This way you can ensure that even if a reboot is inevitable,
then you will be within close range of the other aircraft. There is an EXCELLENT
freeware utility by Peter Dowson called AUTOSAVE. Its a DLL that goes
into the MODULES folder and it does things like saving your current flight
status (in standard MSFS situation files) and then if it crashes it just resets
your flight back to the "10 seconds ago" status. You can have as many
sequenced files saved (say last 10 or each 10'') and choose where to start from
again. If you crash the aircraft FS will restart from last saved file. If FS
itself crashes you can just go and select the situation (flight) file you wish
from the list of files when you reload FS.It can be found at www.schiratti.com

If disconnected from
VATSIM network, take care to ask permission to reconnect from the ATC to avoid
being overrun from another aircraft passing the point you disconnect on the
very same time with you.
